He is accused of promising access to contracts in exchange for money. Following his arrest, he will undergo computer searches to gather further evidence. The decision for his detention was made by the Bucharest Court of Appeal, which deemed it necessary after previous hearings. Supporters gathered outside his residence during the arrest, expressing their solidarity. Georgescu is also under investigation in two other criminal cases, including one related to destabilizing Romania.
