Saint Autonom was a bishop in Italy who fled to Bithynia during the Christian persecutions under Emperor Diocletian. He converted many pagans to Christianity and built a church dedicated to Saint Michael. Diocletian ordered his arrest, leading Autonom to retreat to Claudiopolis, but he returned to serve in his church. He was martyred during a service by angry pagans. His remains were later discovered intact, and a church was built over his relics. He is honored for his faith and martyrdom, and his story is celebrated in Christian tradition.
