Căldura schimbă șampania franțuzească. Producătorii au primit voie să crească temporar concentrația de alcool

Due to extreme heat this summer, French authorities have temporarily raised the maximum alcohol concentration for champagne producers from 13% to 15% for the 2026 harvest. This decision follows unusual weather patterns affecting the Champagne region, including severe frosts and multiple heatwaves, which have accelerated grape ripening and increased sugar levels. While the change allows for higher alcohol content, only a small number of wines are expected to exceed the previous limit. Experts warn that climate change may lead to more frequent occurrences of such conditions, marking a potential shift in the wine industry. The first bottles from the 2026 harvest may not be available until 2028, as production and aging take time.
