In India, invasive weeds from Dal Lake are transformed into traditional papier mâché crafts, a practice dating back to the 14th century. Simran Irshad, 35, utilizes these aquatic plants to create sustainable and cost-effective art pieces. After months of experimentation, she developed a technique combining dried herbs, recycled paper pulp, and a binder. Irshad has trained around fifty women in this craft, with fifteen currently working alongside her to preserve this tradition. The lake, a popular tourist destination, is surrounded by beautiful gardens and has historical significance, including connections to George Harrison of The Beatles.
