A former Soviet military bunker in the Czech mountains has been opened to visitors after decades of secrecy. Built during the Cold War, it served as a backup command post for Soviet troops in Czechoslovakia. The Jasyr bunker, completed in 1974, was designed to function if the main headquarters was incapacitated. It featured its own power, water, and ventilation systems, and was built to withstand medium-intensity nuclear explosions. After the withdrawal of Soviet troops in 1991, the site was abandoned until a military history association began restoration in 2020. The restored site now provides insights into Cold War preparations.
