Bulgaria plans to build a dam and redirect water to ensure the Kozloduy nuclear power plant's water supply amid low Danube levels. The government has initiated studies for a 300-meter dam to maintain adequate water levels, with construction expected to last up to two weeks. The prolonged drought has led to record low water levels in the Danube, impacting transport and trade, and causing energy production reductions at nuclear plants in Hungary and Romania. Kozloduy has already reduced output by about 9% due to extreme hydrological conditions, marking the first capacity cut in its 52-year history. Energy Minister Iva Petrova described the situation as extreme but noted encouraging forecasts for the week ahead.
