Upcoming long-term repairs on railway sections in Serbia and Romania will impact Bulgarian freight transport. Bulgarian Transport Minister Gheorghi Peev discussed this with his Romanian counterparts, highlighting concerns over simultaneous route closures. Serbia plans to close the Niš-Dimitrovgrad line for about 200 days starting September 2026, while Romania will halt traffic on the Giurgiu Nord-Ruse route from April to December 2027. Peev emphasized the need for coordinated repair activities to maintain international traffic continuity and proposed scheduling freight train intervals to mitigate disruptions. Further discussions will focus on operational solutions to minimize negative impacts on border rail traffic.
