Romania is set to launch RO Wallet, a digital identity wallet, by January 2027, allowing citizens to store official documents on their phones. The project has entered a new phase with the launch of the official website and technical documentation. The first testing version is expected by October 2026, with a beta version in December. RO Wallet will initially include identification data, proof of residence, and a digital driver's license, with plans to add more documents later. It aims to facilitate easier access to services both in Romania and across the EU, adhering to European standards. The project utilizes an open-source solution from Germany to reduce costs.
