Starting January 2027, Romanians will be able to use RO Wallet, a digital wallet for storing official documents and proving identity. The rollout will occur in phases, beginning with holders of electronic identity cards, who can enroll remotely. Those with traditional ID cards will have to wait until the third quarter of 2027 for in-person enrollment. A survey indicated strong interest in the app, with 85% of respondents likely to use it, primarily for carrying ID cards, driving licenses, and health cards. Privacy concerns were highlighted, with many wanting control over their data and the ability to track who accesses it. RO Wallet is part of the EU's eIDAS 2 initiative and will be showcased at a European event in late October 2026.
