Romania's Supreme Council of National Defense has approved a significant military modernization plan for 2027-2036, committing to allocate up to 5% of GDP by 2035. This unprecedented financial commitment includes 3.5% for direct defense expenses and 1.5% for associated costs like dual-use infrastructure and technological research. The plan emphasizes acquiring modern missile systems, new-generation fighter jets, and heavy armored vehicles, aiming to enhance combat capabilities and operational integration with strategic partners. Additionally, it will support the national defense industry through technology transfer and local production clauses in upcoming multilateral programs.
