The proposal includes an 88% reduction in accidental cod catches in the western Baltic and a 51% cut in the eastern Baltic. Conversely, fishing opportunities for herring in various regions are set to increase, with a 44% rise for sprat. The Commission emphasizes the urgent need for measures to protect the Baltic ecosystem, with decisions to be finalized by EU member states later this month.
