Bruxelles-ul apără Curtea Penală Internațională după sancțiunile impuse de SUA: „Judecătorii trebuie să poată acționa independent”

The European Union has reiterated its support for the International Criminal Court (ICC) following U.S. sanctions against its president, Tomoko Akane. The European Commission emphasized the need for ICC judges to operate independently without external pressures. Ursula von der Leyen expressed solidarity with the ICC and its officials, highlighting the importance of their independent functioning. This statement came after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio criticized the ICC, labeling it as a corrupt and politicized institution. The ICC responded, stating that the sanctions undermine the rule of law.
