Authorities have begun the controlled sinking of the first barge at the entrance to the Bala channel of the Danube to ensure the operation of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant. This operation was delayed due to strong currents. Four barges loaded with gravel will be sunk to redirect part of the Danube's flow. Each sinking takes about 3-4 hours and is conducted safely. The goal is to gain a few centimeters of water level at the power plant, which is crucial for cooling the reactors. Current Danube flow is at a historic low, but is expected to increase soon.
