He reportedly destroyed his electronic monitoring bracelet before police arrived to take him to prison. Authorities are actively searching for him, having initiated multiple checkpoints in the area. Simoniac had previously been under house arrest after a 30-day preventive detention. His escape occurred just as the court's decision was announced, which invalidated his home arrest but did not authorize him to remove the monitoring device himself.
