The incompatibility rule, established by Law no. 165/2026, affects those holding both roles. If they do not resign from one, the National Integrity Agency can remove them from office starting tomorrow. Negotiations among political parties aimed to create transitional measures to protect councilors from losing their mandates abruptly. However, a key political figure has blocked these solutions, demanding the withdrawal of a specific amendment in exchange for support. Teachers and researchers are exempt from this incompatibility, allowing them to maintain their roles without contract suspension.
