Bolile mintale grave, asociate cu o speranţă de viaţă mai scurtă / Studiu pe aproape 180.000 de pacienţi
A study from the University of Queensland reveals that individuals with severe mental illnesses like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder have a life expectancy up to 20 years shorter than the general population. The research analyzed hospital data from nearly 180,000 patients over 24 years, highlighting that physical health issues significantly contribute to this reduced lifespan. Many assume that suicide is the primary cause, but preventable physical conditions play a major role. Young adults, especially women under 25, are particularly affected. The study suggests that timely treatment and regular health monitoring could mitigate chronic health issues in these patients.
