BNR menține dobânda-cheie la 6,5%

The National Bank of Romania has decided to maintain the monetary policy interest rate at 6.50% despite a significant decrease in inflation. The central bank warns that inflation may rise again by the end of the year due to increasing prices of fuels and energy. The annual inflation rate dropped to 6.17% in August from 10.42% in June, attributed to the fading effects of previous price controls. Economic activity has stagnated, with a slight contraction in the first half of the year. The BNR anticipates potential economic recovery in the third quarter but warns of risks from external factors and domestic inflationary pressures. The next monetary policy meeting is scheduled for November 12, 2026.
