The National Bank of Romania has launched its first rectangular coin, commemorating 140 years since the birth of painter Nicolae Tonitza. This silver coin, valued at 10 lei, is priced at 1,150 lei for collectors. Only 500 pieces will be available, each accompanied by a presentation brochure and authenticity certificate. The coin features a colored depiction of Tonitza's painting 'Yellow Flowers' on one side and his portrait on the other. It weighs 31.103 grams and measures 43x31 mm. The coins are available through regional branches of the bank and have legal tender status in Romania.
