BNR intervine în favoarea băncilor și împotriva Consiliului Concurenței în scandalul ROBOR
The National Bank of Romania (BNR) is reportedly intervening in court to support banks fined for manipulating ROBOR, opposing the Competition Council. Lawyer Gheorghe Piperea claims this action favors private corporations over public interests. All sanctioned banks are contesting the fines, seeking private hearings for their cases. Piperea plans to support the Competition Council in these legal battles, highlighting concerns about the costs and trust in the judicial system. The fines, totaling 3.73 billion lei, stem from a June 2026 decision by the Competition Council, which found banks coordinated their actions regarding ROBOR. BNR has previously criticized these sanctions, warning of potential risks to the banking system.
