Bloomberg: Cum au ajuns donatorii de sânge din România să finanțeze deficitul bugetar
Romania has gained attention for its unique initiative allowing blood donors to purchase government bonds with preferential interest rates exceeding 7%. This program not only encourages blood donation but also provides the state with additional funding. Since its launch in 2023, it has attracted approximately 2.8 billion lei, equivalent to about 604 million dollars, from tens of thousands of individual investors. While similar programs exist in countries like Italy and Japan, Romania's approach has raised concerns about the potential costs of attracting retail investors. Critics argue that preferential rates could lead to expensive financing and pressure on banks as funds shift from deposits to government bonds.
