The fortified churches built by the German communities in Romania are deteriorating, especially after the mass emigration of Saxons during the communist era. Despite their historical significance, funding for restoration is scarce in one of the EU's poorest countries. A recent collapse of a wall at the fortified church in Moșna highlights the urgent need for preservation efforts. While some churches have received restoration, many remain at risk due to lack of resources. Local initiatives aim to transform these churches into cultural spaces to attract visitors and raise funds for their upkeep. The community hopes that recent events will prompt action to save these historical monuments.
