BioNTech has appointed Guido Oelkers as the new CEO, succeeding co-founder Ugur Sahin by February 2027. Oelkers, currently leading Sobi, brings expertise in product commercialization, particularly in the U.S. market. The company plans to seek approvals for cancer drugs by 2030 while facing job cuts due to overcapacity. Sahin will leave BioNTech to start a new venture focused on mRNA-based therapies. Despite a billion-euro loss last year, BioNTech anticipates revenues of 2 to 2.3 billion euros in 2026, amid declining Covid-19 vaccine sales.
