Romania has installed nearly 10,000 MW of energy capacity since 2010, but only achieved a net gain of 2,021 MW due to significant withdrawals. The analysis by energy expert Adrian Vintila highlights a shift towards renewable sources, with 6,514 MW from solar and wind, while conventional gas and coal plants have decreased. The period from 2010 to 2014 saw rapid growth in renewables, but from 2015 to 2022, investment slowed and many older plants were decommissioned. Recent years show a resurgence in predictable energy investments and storage capacity, with 2024 projected as the best year for net capacity growth. However, Romania faces challenges in energy availability, particularly with nuclear and hydro production issues.
