In August 2026, Romania experienced a significant increase in fuel prices, with a 26.7% rise compared to the previous year, the second highest in the EU after Spain. Overall, EU fuel prices rose by 23.8% year-on-year, with 18 member states seeing increases over 20%. The highest price hikes were noted in Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Finland. Month-on-month, diesel prices increased by 8.3% and gasoline by 3.3%. Romania's gasoline prices specifically rose by 6.6% from July to August 2026, while diesel saw a 6.1% increase. Eurostat reported that 22 countries experienced gasoline price hikes, with Spain leading at 8.2%.
