On September 11, 2023, gasoline prices in Romania reached a historic high, averaging 9.88 lei per liter, with some stations charging 9.97 lei. Diesel prices also exceeded 10 lei, averaging 10.35 lei per liter. These increases surpass previous records set during the 2022 energy crisis. The current gasoline price is 1.23 lei higher than the previous record, marking a 14% increase. In Bucharest, prices for standard gasoline ranged from 9.82 to 9.88 lei, while diesel started at 10.28 lei. The rise in fuel prices is linked to a significant increase in international oil prices, with Brent crude reaching around 108-109 dollars per barrel due to geopolitical tensions.
