Belgium has reiterated its opposition to using frozen Russian assets in the EU to fund aid for Ukraine, stating that this idea has not gained much support among member states. The initiative, proposed by Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands, and Poland, was met with indifference during a recent EU foreign ministers' meeting. Belgium's Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot emphasized that the reasons for their opposition remain unchanged, as most of the frozen assets are held in Belgium. The EU had previously opted for a €90 billion loan to assist Ukraine instead of utilizing these assets, which total around €210 billion. The discussion on this topic will continue among EU leaders.
