Băsescu expressed concerns that this position complicates reaching an agreement and noted that it is recognized in Brussels, making it unlikely for Romania to adopt a law that meets European requirements amid excessive deficit. He described the situation as disastrous, especially with public debt exceeding 60% of GDP, and emphasized the need for a recovery plan with European institutions. Băsescu also dismissed the idea of a transitional government, insisting on constitutional terms for political discussions.
