Romania has a chance to recover part of the 770 million euros related to the public salary reform if the law is adopted before the November evaluation by the European Commission. Minister Dragoș Pîslaru emphasized that while the full amount cannot be retrieved, political will could help reduce penalties. The law must meet specific commitments made to the European Commission under the PNRR. Pîslaru noted that the delay in adopting the law was politically motivated, stemming from negotiations between the Social Democratic Party and unions. He believes there is still time to improve the current draft of the law before the deadline.
