This situation is attributed to intense competition in the retail banking sector. Over the past decade, banks in Romania have earned less from loans compared to those in Poland and Hungary, even with higher risks. The analysis shows that consumer loans have fixed interest rates, protecting clients from rising costs, while banks have eased lending conditions.
