Banca Mondială: Economia României va scădea în 2026. Inflația și reducerea consumului pun presiune pe populație

The World Bank predicts Romania's economy will contract by 0.5% in 2026 due to high inflation and reduced consumer spending. A recovery is expected in 2027 with a projected GDP growth of 1.7%, contingent on political stability and effective use of EU funds. Real household incomes are under pressure from rising energy prices and stagnant wages, particularly affecting low-income families. While private consumption has decreased, investments have risen significantly, driven by EU-funded infrastructure projects. Inflation reached 10.4% in June 2026, primarily due to energy costs, but is expected to decline later in the year. The budget deficit is projected to decrease, yet public debt will continue to rise. The labor market shows signs of weakness, with a low vacancy rate and structural challenges persisting. Poverty rates are expected to remain stable, with slow progress anticipated in poverty reduction as economic conditions remain weak.
