Banana modificată cu o „foarfecă invizibilă” care a primit aprobare în 11 țări
A genetically modified banana that stays yellow for up to 24 hours after peeling is set to hit UK supermarkets. Developed by a British company, this Cavendish variety resists browning due to a gene editing technique called CRISPR-Cas9, which disables the PPO1 gene responsible for oxidation. The banana's pulp can remain fresh for one to two days, especially when refrigerated. The UK government has recognized it as a 'precision-bred organism,' pending safety approval from the Food Standards Agency. This innovation aims to reduce food waste, as approximately 1.4 million bananas are discarded daily in the UK due to browning.
