In Dresden, Germany, Discover Airlines' Airbus A330-300 becomes the first aircraft equipped with AeroSHARK, a special film mimicking shark skin texture. This innovation enhances aerodynamics, reduces fuel consumption, and lowers emissions. Lufthansa is expanding this technology from Boeing to Airbus, with the film featuring microscopic grooves that minimize air friction. The A330 will have around 950 square meters of this film applied, covering 45% of its surface. Although the aircraft's weight increases slightly, the fuel savings during flight compensate for it. AeroSHARK is expected to save 1% of fuel, which is significant over time. Future plans include applying the film to wings and tail for further aerodynamic benefits, potentially increasing savings to 2%.
