Energy Commissioner Jørgensen urged member states to adopt measures to support gas storage and reduce energy demand. EU gas stocks are about 70% full, which is lower than last year. The ongoing geopolitical tensions and competition for LNG are driving prices up, with potential spikes expected this winter. Jørgensen emphasized the importance of voluntary measures to manage energy consumption and suggested a target of 80% gas storage to ensure supply security without causing panic buying. While the situation remains challenging, there are currently no immediate risks to supply security, although the EU must manage demand to avoid exacerbating the crisis.
