In the first eight months of 2026, the number of building permits for residential buildings in Romania decreased by 12.2% compared to the same period in 2025, totaling 21,791 permits. Significant declines were noted in several regions, particularly in the North-East, West, South-Muntenia, and North-West. The only increase occurred in the Bucharest-Ilfov region. In August 2026, there was a slight increase in permits compared to July, with 2,943 permits issued. However, there was a decrease in permits for non-residential buildings. Year-on-year comparisons show a decline in both residential permits and total usable area, with some regions experiencing significant drops. Conversely, there was a slight increase in non-residential permits compared to August 2025, despite a notable decrease in usable area.
