Venice authorities are considering extending the tourist tax, increasing it to 30 euros for day visitors, to combat overtourism. Current fees range from 5 to 10 euros, deemed insufficient. Discussions with the government are needed for the new rate, potentially reaching 50 euros. Early bookings pay only 5 euros, while overnight guests are exempt but pay a nightly tourist tax. The tax is collected during peak tourist days, generating over 5.2 million euros this season. Critics argue the tax does not effectively deter tourists, as the city still sees high visitor numbers despite the fee.
