A suspected Ebola case has been reported on a boat traveling on the Congo River towards Kinshasa, raising concerns in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The country declared its 17th Ebola outbreak on May 15, with nearly 4,000 confirmed cases and significant fatalities since the outbreak began. A passenger from Tshopo province, where Ebola cases have been reported, died in Mongala, prompting health authorities to test all passengers and isolate the boat. The current outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, which lacks a vaccine or treatment. The WHO director emphasized the need for intensified efforts to combat the outbreak, which has spread to five provinces in recent months.
