Autobuzele pe gaz ale lui Ceaușescu: Istoria "rachetelor" din anii '80
Compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles gained popularity recently, but Romania had buses and trucks running on gas in the 1980s. Despite being innovative, the technology was primitive and posed explosion risks. The project was approved by Ceaușescu after he saw a prototype at an exhibition. The first modified bus was a TV 20, and later models like Roman 112 and Ikarus 280 were adapted for gas use. Engineers developed dual-fuel engines and dedicated gas engines, but safety concerns arose due to the high pressure of gas tanks and altered vehicle stability.
