The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) notified about 1.3 million voters who did not participate last year. Of these, 207,000 paid a $20 fine, totaling $4.14 million collected. Another 250,000 provided valid reasons for their absence, while 710,000 did not respond and may face higher fines. Voting is mandatory for all citizens over 18 in Australia, with a turnout of 90.7% reported for the last elections.
