The Edinburgh sank after being attacked by German U-boats, taking 465 gold bars to the ocean floor. The recovery mission in 1981 involved complex underwater operations and collaboration with various organizations. After weeks of work, divers found 431 gold bars, which were later distributed among the consortium, the Soviet Union, and the British Department of Trade.
