This victory marks his third consecutive European title in this event, making him the second swimmer in history to achieve this feat. He previously held the record at 46.72 seconds. Popovici finished strong, overtaking competitors after a second-place turn at the 50m mark. Russian Egor Kornev and Hungarian Kristof Milak followed him in the rankings. Romania is represented by 11 athletes at the championships.
