AUR denies links to Victoriei Square protest violence, calls for individual accountability

The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) denied any connection to the violence at the September 15 protest in Bucharest, asserting that responsibility lies with individuals. AUR criticized attempts to link the party to the violence, claiming that those detained were not members and that the party advocated for peaceful protests. They urged prosecutors to cease what they described as a politically motivated investigation aimed at implicating AUR and its leader, George Simion. Prosecutors have initiated proceedings against 20 individuals for various violent offenses during the protest.
