This summer saw unprecedented heat in Western Europe, alongside rising greenhouse gas emissions. The Copernicus program reported that global air temperature reached 16.96°C, while sea surface temperature hit 21.07°C, both record highs. The increase in emissions, particularly from the U.S. and China, raises concerns about reaching 1.5°C warming by the decade's end.
