The age of an organ donor is not the sole factor in determining transplant suitability, according to doctors at "Dr. C. I. Parhon" Hospital in Iași. A recent case involved a 70-year-old man in a coma whose kidneys were successfully transplanted to two patients. Despite having multiple health issues, his kidneys were in good condition. The hospital has previously transplanted kidneys from donors as old as 74. Medical professionals argue that even if older kidneys have a shorter lifespan, they still provide valuable additional years of life for recipients. The notion that older donors yield less functional organs is not always accurate, as demonstrated by a case where a grandfather donated a kidney to his grandson.
