Atletul român Ștefan Ciobanu, pe locul 8 în finala probei de aruncare a greutății la Mondialele U20

Romanian athlete Ștefan Alexandru Ciobanu finished eighth in the shot put final at the U20 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with a best throw of 19.20 meters. The gold medal was won by Brazil's Alessandro Borges, who set a personal record of 20.35 meters. Ciobanu, the European U18 champion, also achieved a top-eight finish at the U20 Championships. In the women's 100m, Ana-Maria Dogan and Carolina-Andreea Pungă were eliminated in the heats. The first day of the championships saw a world record in the mixed 4x400m relay by the USA and victories for Kenya and Uganda in the 5,000m events.
