University studies can contribute to pension calculations, even without social insurance contributions. Graduates can receive additional pension points based on their study duration. The law recognizes completed university education as equivalent to contribution periods, allowing for a monthly point allocation of 0.25 points per year of study. For example, four years of university equate to one pension point, translating to 81 lei in 2026. However, these study years do not count as contributory years, which is crucial for early retirement eligibility. If a person worked while studying, pension calculations will consider both contributions and study points, affecting the final pension amount.
