The newly launched TollRo road tax system in Romania is facing technical issues, preventing users from making payments. The National Road Company (CNAIR) announced that no penalties will be imposed on drivers unable to purchase the toll due to these problems. The system, which shifts from a fixed fee to a distance-based charge for freight transport, was intended to be operational from October 1, 2026. However, high user traffic has caused email and payment processing delays. CNAIR is working with payment processors to resolve these issues and ensure proper transaction handling. The TollRo system aims to align with European legislation, promoting a 'polluter pays' principle for road usage fees.
