On October 19, 2026, a religiously motivated attack occurred at a school in Bistrița, where a seventh-grade student armed with a machete assaulted a teacher and a classmate. The attacker, wearing a mask and helmet, targeted a classmate of a different religion but ended up injuring a teacher and another student who intervened. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailant forced his way into the classroom and attacked the teacher with the machete. The school inspector noted that the aggressor, a Romanian who had returned from Spain, was confused about the targeted student’s ethnicity. Both the teacher and the injured student were taken to the hospital for treatment.
