Aspartamul rămâne sigur pentru consum. Anunțul oficial al organismului de supraveghere din UE • Newsweek România
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has reaffirmed that aspartame is safe for human consumption at current intake levels. This conclusion follows a comprehensive review of scientific evidence, providing clarity for consumers and the food industry. Aspartame, widely used in various products, has an acceptable daily intake (ADI) of 40 mg per kg of body weight. To exceed this limit, an average adult would need to consume over 12 servings of aspartame-sweetened beverages daily. The EFSA noted that the breakdown products of aspartame are naturally found in common foods and are not toxic at moderate consumption levels. However, individuals with phenylketonuria (PKU) should avoid aspartame due to their inability to metabolize phenylalanine. The EFSA's rigorous reevaluation counters previous classifications of aspartame as possibly carcinogenic, providing a clear risk assessment for the European food environment.
