As of June 2026, private pension funds in Romania managed assets totaling 246.2 billion lei, marking a 39% increase from the previous year. This growth represents 12.35% of the country's GDP, indicating the maturation of the pension system as a significant source of institutional capital. The majority of assets are concentrated in Pillar II, with 237.4 billion lei, while Pillar III holds 8.78 billion lei. The number of participants in the private pension system has reached 9.64 million. The president of the Financial Supervisory Authority emphasized the importance of long-term performance evaluation, given market fluctuations. Approximately 67% of investments are in fixed-income instruments, and 29% in equities, contributing to the financing of the Romanian economy. The private pension system is viewed as a long-term investment solution, essential for addressing demographic challenges and ensuring future financial security.
