The Clujana factory, once a leading shoe manufacturer in Romania, faced decline after 1989 due to market changes and financial difficulties. Established in 1911, it became a major employer and exporter during the communist era. However, post-1990, it struggled with competition and eventually went bankrupt in 1999. Attempts to revive the brand were made, but the factory remained unprofitable. Recently, plans have been announced to transform part of the site into the Clujana Innovation Hub, focusing on research and technology transfer, funded by European grants. This project aims to honor the factory's legacy while fostering economic development in the region.
